For Sale By Owner, 2023

Acrylic paint, wood, canvas, nails, and thread, 1.5 x 3 feet (approx.)

Whether driving through farmland, cities, countrysides, or rural towns, ‘for sale’ and ‘sold’ signs litter every parcel of land. No matter the geography, land is always sought out to be purchased and sold, deconstructed and built on. When viewing such signs on road trips, I often questioned the morality of land ownership in terms of environmental collapse. The once whole landscape in the painting has been brutally divided, with every last millimeter designated to a buyer or seller. The cuts in the landscape reveal the red core of the earth, while even the sky is sought after for human needs. The ‘for sale’ and ‘sold’ signs hang boldly in front of the landscape, distracting from our already doctored view of nature.
